Reviewing a PDF

This document is for internal Tenable Network Security review only.

  1. Download and install Acrobat Reader. (Windows/Mac)

    This topic covers making annotations and inline edits using Adobe Reader. For Linux, Okular provides support for annotations in PDFs which may be a viable (if currently untested) solution.

  2. Open the review PDF in Acrobat Reader.

    The PDF is displayed in Acrobat Reader.

  3. In the right pane, select Comment.

    The right pane is replaced with the Comment context of the Tools pane, and the Comment toolbar appears.

  4. Use the Comment tools to apply notes and edits to the PDF.

  5. Save the PDF. Your changes and notes will be saved.

  6. Return the saved PDF to the writer.

Comment Tools

The following table lists the Comment tools that are used most commonly.

  Tool Description
Add Sticky Note Adds a sticky note to the page you are viewing. The note appears as can be moved around on the page. You add text when you first create the bubble. You can modify the text by double-clicking on , or in the Tools pane (normally on the right).
Highlight Text Highlights text on the page. You must select text on the page before clicking .
Underline Text Underlines text on the page. You must select text on the page before clicking .
Add Note to Text

Associates a note with text on the page. You must select text on the page before clicking . You add text to the note when you first create it. You can modify the note by double-clicking the speech bubble that appears, or in the Tools pane (normally on the right).

Example:

Strikethrough Text Strikesthrough text on the page. You must select text on the page before clicking .
Note to Replace Text

Strikesthrough text on the page, and associates a note with that text. You must select text on the page before clicking . You add text to the note when you first create it. You can modify the note by double-clicking the text that is struckthrough, or in the Tools pane (normally on the right).

Example:

Insert Text at Cursor

Inserts text at the cursor location. The text cursor must appear on the page before clicking . You can modify the text in the Tools pane (normally on the right).

If you click anywhere on the page and start typing, Acrobat Reader will assume you want to insert text at the cursor location. You are not required to click .
