You must run all programs as a local user with administrative privileges. To do so, when UAC is enabled, right-click on the installer program and select Run as Administrator.

Start or Stop Industrial Security

net start "Tenable Industrial Security Proxy"

Alternatively, Industrial Security can be managed via the Services control panel utility. Under the list of services, find Tenable Industrial Security Proxy Service. Right click on the service to provide a list of options for the services, including the ability to start or stop the Tenable Industrial Security or Tenable Industrial Security Proxy service.

File Locations

Industrial Security installs its files in the following locations:

Path Purpose

C:\Program Files\Tenable\Industrial Security

Contains Industrial Security binaries and dependent libraries.

C:\ProgramData\Tenable\Industrial Security

Contains all data files consumed and output by Industrial Security and Industrial Security Proxy (e.g., configuration, plugins, logs, and reports).

Note: This directory does not appear unless the Windows Hidden Files and Folders option is enabled.

The following table contains the folder layout under C:\ProgramData\Tenable\Industrial Security:

Contains the software license agreement for Industrial Security.

Industrial Security

Parent folder for Industrial Security logs, reports, plugins, and scripts directories. Also contains the Industrial Security-services file.


Contains the database files relating to the configuration, reports, and users for Industrial Security.


Stores the Industrial Security knowledge base, if used.


Contains Industrial Security logs.


Contains the Industrial Security plugins delivered via the Industrial Security Feed or updated via the command line or web interface if Industrial Security is running in Offline mode.


Contains reports generated by Industrial Security with the exception of .nsr. This folder contains the .nessus file generated by default.


Contains the files for the Industrial Security Web server.


Contains SSL certificates used by the proxy and web server for the SSL connection between itself and the web browser.


Contains folders for user files and reports.


Contains the files for the Industrial Security web front-end.

Industrial Security-proxy

Parent folder for files used/created by the Industrial Security proxy.


Contains Industrial Security proxy and Industrial Security proxy service logs.


By default, Industrial Security creates the .nsr file in the scans folder. The proxy is then responsible for handling the report to when attempts to pull it.


Contains process ID temporary files.
