Set Up the Patch Server
Tenable Patch Management components include the Tenable Patch Server, the Tenable Patch Client, and the Admin Portal. After purchasing Tenable Patch Management, Tenable provides a compressed file that contains these components. The installation begins with the Tenable Patch Server followed by the Tenable Patch Client, also installed on the Tenable Patch Server. The Admin Portal facilitates the distribution and installation of the Client to the endpoint devices.
Prerequisites
Before installing the Tenable Patch Server, review the following details, complete the configuration requirements, and record information for use during the installation process.
Follow the sequence of prerequisites in the order presented.
Tenable Patch Server
The Tenable Patch Server is a key component of the Tenable Patch Management. The Tenable Patch Server provides administration services and policy deployments for products and connects with the Adaptiva Database, either locally or on a remote server.
The Tenable Patch Server hosts both the Server software and a Tenable Patch Client instance. Tenable Patch Management uses both components to facilitate and simplify complex endpoint management processes, including caching, peer communication, content acquisition, and result reporting.

---|---|
Operating System |

Installation files require 1.5 GB for the Tenable Patch Server, and the Tenable Patch Client. Logging requires 5 GB for default logging retention In addition to the general storage requirements, the Tenable Patch Server requires disk space to store published content in the Content Library. The estimated size is the same amount of storage used for the content source files, plus 20% for policy files and DIFF files. |
Tenable Patch Server Installation Path Details
The Tenable Patch Server installation wizard uses the following default location for files and logs:
C:\Program Files\Tenable\PatchServer
Tenable strongly recommends changing the default drive location to something other than C:\ because the Content Library and log files grow over time, increasing space usage, which can and impact storage and performance on the C:\ drive.
You may also choose your own installation path. Record the installation path details for use during the Server installation.
The Server and Client installations create a system environment variable that points to the respective install locations. For example, %ADAPTIVASERVER% maps to the following location:
C:\Program Files\Tenable\PatchServer\
%ADAPTIVACLIENT% maps to the following location:
C:\Program Files\Tenable\PatchClient\
