Register High Performance Mode Tenable Nessus Network Monitor for Tenable Security Center in an Air-gapped Environment

To register Tenable Nessus Network Monitor for Tenable Security Center in an air-gapped environment, you must either update your current install or configure a fresh install of Tenable Nessus Network Monitor

Note: These steps apply to High Performance, 10G mode.

Update the Current Install

From Tenable Nessus Network Monitor:

  1. From a CLI on Tenable Nessus Network Monitor, stop the Tenable Nessus Network Monitor service.
  2. Run the following command:

    /opt/nnm/bin/nnm --config "Enable High Performance Mode" "1"

  3. Start the Tenable Nessus Network Monitor service.
  4. In a browser, open Tenable Nessus Network Monitor.
  5. Click Configuration > Feed Settings.
  6. In the Activation Code box type ‘XXXX’.

    Note: This allows the (required) High Performance license to persist and enables the Fetch Plugins From drop-down box.

  7. From the Fetch Plugins From drop-down box, select SecurityCenter.
  8. Click Update.

From Tenable Security Center:

  1. Open a browser and log in to Tenable Security Center.
  2. Add Tenable Nessus Network Monitor, as described in the Add a Tenable Nessus Network Monitor in the Tenable Security Center User Guide.
  3. Click Submit.

    The system adds Tenable Nessus Network Monitor to Tenable Security Center.

    Note: The Tenable Nessus Network Monitor status changes to Plugins Out of Sync while the plugins are first downloaded to Tenable Nessus Network Monitor from Tenable Security Center. The next time Tenable Security Center polls Tenable Nessus Network Monitor, the status updates to Working.

 

Configure a Fresh Install

From Tenable Nessus Network Monitor:

  1. From a CLI on Tenable Nessus Network Monitor, run the following command:

    /opt/nnm/bin/nnm --config "Enable High Performance Mode" "1"

  2. Start the Tenable Nessus Network Monitor service.
  3. In a browser, open Tenable Nessus Network Monitor.
  4. In Step 2 of the Quick Setup steps, check the Register Offline check box.
  5. In a browser, navigate to https://plugins.nessus.org/v2/offline.php .

  6. Type the Tenable Nessus Network Monitor challenge code.
  7. Type the activation code.
  8. In Tenable Nessus Network Monitor complete the Quick Setup steps.
  9. Click Configuration > Feed Settings.
  10. In the Activation Code box type ‘XXXX’.

    Note: This allows the (required) High Performance license to persist and enables the Fetch Plugins From drop-down box.

  11. From the Fetch Plugins From drop-down box, select SecurityCenter.

  12. Click Update.

From Tenable Security Center:

  1. Open a browser and connect to Tenable Security Center.
  2. Add Tenable Nessus Network Monitor, as described in the Add a Tenable Nessus Network Monitor in the Tenable Security Center User Guide.
  3. Click Submit.

    The system adds Tenable Nessus Network Monitor to Tenable Security Center.

    Note: The Tenable Nessus Network Monitor status changes to Plugins Out of Sync while the plugins are first downloaded to Tenable Nessus Network Monitor from Tenable Security Center. The next time Tenable Security Center polls Tenable Nessus Network Monitor, the status updates to Working.
