Update Activation Code

In the event that you receive a new license with a corresponding activation code, you must register the new activation code in Nessus using either of the methods outlined below.

Note: If you are working with Nessus offline, see Register Nessus Offline.

Update Nessus in the UI

  1. In Nessus, in the top navigation bar, click Settings.

    The About page appears.

  2. In the Overview tab, next to Activation Code, click the button.

    The Update Activation Code window appears.

  3. In the Registration box, select your version of Nessus.
  4. In the Activation code box, type your new activation code.
  5. Click the Activate button.

    Nessus downloads and installs the Nessus engine and the latest Nessus plugins, and then restarts.

  6. Log in to Nessus.

    The new activation code appears in the Overview tab.

  1. In Nessus, select the button (System Settings page).
  2. Select the button next to the Activation Code.
  3. On the Update Activation screen, select your Registration type.
  4. Enter the new Activation Code.
  5. Select Save.

    Next, Nessus downloads and installs the Nessus engine and the latest Nessus plugins.

    Once the download process is complete, Nessus restarts, and then prompts you to log in again.

    Nessus updates with the new licensing information.

Update Nessus via Command Line

  1. On the system running Nessus, open a command prompt.
  2. Run the nessuscli fetch --register <Activation Code> command specific to your operating system.

    Platform Command

    Linux

    # /opt/nessus/sbin/nessuscli fetch --register xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

    FreeBSD

    # /usr/local/nessus/sbin/nessuscli fetch --register xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

    Mac OS X

    # /Library/Nessus/run/sbin/nessuscli fetch --register xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

    Windows

    C:\Program Files\Tenable\Nessus>nessuscli.exe fetch --register xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

    Nessus downloads and installs the Nessus engine and the latest Nessus plugins, and then restarts.
