Install the On-Premises Server

To install the Tenable Patch Management on-premises server component:

  1. Install Windows Server 2016 or later.

  2. Ensure that internet access is available so the installer will be able to download SQL Express Edition.

  3. To avoid issues during installation, do one of the following:

    1. Install a non-Microsoft web browser and set it as the default.

    2. Turn off Internet Explorer’s Enhanced Security configuration.

      1. Open Server Manager (in Administrative Tools).

      2. Select Local Server.

      3. In the Properties box, look for IE Enhanced Security Configuration.

        1. If IE Enhanced Security Configuration is set to On, then click On. It will then give you the option to change it. Select Off for Administrators, then click on OK.

  4. Download the Tenable Patch Management installer.

  5. Run the Tenable Patch Management installer and accept the defaults. Installation takes about 15 minutes.

  6. After the installation completes, connect to the Tenable Patch Management server through a web browser at https://localhost and select the Log in with Active Directory option.

  7. Click Manage Licenses > Add Key, enter the activation key, and click OK.

  8. Click Settings > product licensing > OneSite Patch Enterprise for Tenable, toggle the Use all Clients option, and click OK.

  9. Refresh browser page to apply License Theme configuration.

  10. After the spinner goes away, click Patch Management in the top left.

  11. Navigate to Tenable > Access Settings on the left, select Tenable Vulnerability Management or Tenable Security Center from the dropdown, and then enter the API keys.

Note: It often takes a few hours for the Tenable dashboard to populate after entering the API keys. If you did not receive an error message after entering the API keys, give it overnight to populate before concluding the integration isn’t working.

  12. Enable Adaptiva CDN and cloud relay if clients and server won’t be on the same network. For more information, refer to the full installation guide.

  13. Install the Tenable Patch Management agent on systems you which to manage with the following command:

    AdaptivaClientSetup.exe -installorupgrade -serverip <patch_management_server_ip> -mem 512

Replace <patch_management_server_ip> with the IP address of your Tenable Patch Management sever.
