Deploy Tenable Core in Hyper-V

To deploy Tenable Core + Tenable OT Security as a Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machine, you must download the Tenable Core + Tenable OT Security .zip file and deploy it on the host where you want to launch Tenable Core + Tenable OT Security.

Note: After you download the .zip file, you can use an external storage device to deploy it on another machine. You do not need internet access on the machine hosting Tenable Core.

Before you begin:

To deploy Tenable Core + Tenable OT Security as a Hyper-V virtual machine:

  1. Download the file from the Tenable Downloads page.

  2. Navigate to your Hyper-V Manager on the machine where you want to deploy Tenable Core + Tenable OT Security.
  3. Extract the .zip file you previously downloaded. Extracting may take a few minutes.
  4. In your Hyper-V Manager, create a new virtual machine.

    The Hyper-V Manager wizard appears.

  5. In the setup wizard, adjust the virtual machine configurations to meet your organization's storage needs, and the requirements described in System Requirements.

    Configuration options for your Tenable Core setup:

    1. Specify Name and Location: Set according to your organization's needs.

    2. Specify Generation: Select Generation 1 as the generation of the virtual machine.

    3. Assign Memory: Set according to your organization's needs.

    4. Connect Virtual Hard Disk:

      1. Select Use an existing virtual hard disk

      2. Click Browse and select the .vhd file.

    5. Installation Options: Set according to your organization's needs.

  6. Click Finish.

    The Hyper-V setup completes and the install wizard closes.

  7. Right-click on your new machine listed in the Virtual Machines section.

    A drop-down menu appears.

  8. Click Settings.

    A settings menu for your new virtual machine appears.

  9. Click Add Hardware > Network Adapter > Add.

    A Network Adapter menu appears.

    Note: For Tenable Core + Tenable OT Security deployments, repeat this step and create two interfaces.

  10. Configure the Virtual switch according to your environment.

  11. Click Ok and exit the Settings page.

  12. In the Virtual Machines table, right-click the row for your machine and click Start or Connect.

    The virtual machine load process appears in a console. The load process may take several minutes to complete.
